Road and traffic improvements to the 45th and Hillside intersection will begin on Monday in a project that will widen the intersection to provide left- and right-turn lanes in all directions and install a new traffic signal. The estimated completion is late 2018.
On Monday, the intersection will close to traffic for the duration of the project, including the eastbound K-254 off-ramp to 45th Street and Hillside. Through traffic will be detoured using 53rd, 37th, Hydraulic, and Oliver streets.
Additional message signs will be posted along I-135, I-235, and K-254 to provide advance warning of the closures.
The $2.5 million project includes joint funding from the City of Wichita, and Federal and State grants, administered through the Kansas Department of Transportation.
