Beginning Monday, June 18, the traffic signal at Kellogg and 111th Street West will be turned off and direct access to and from 111th Street will be closed.
A subsequent six-month trial period will allow for monitoring traffic patterns on Kellogg and the frontage roads. A final determination on status of the traffic signal and access at 111th Street will be made at the end of the trial period.
During the trial period, businesses near 111th Street can be accessed from frontage roads via the Maize Road and 119th Street intersections. Signs will be posted along Kellogg and in advance of the intersections to advise drivers of the changes to access. Please see attached map.
The primary focus of the $1 million project is to improve safety. More than 35,000 vehicles per day use Kellogg, compared to 1,200 per day on 111th Street. The intersection at 111th Street has a crash rate of 0.70 – nearly six times higher than the next Kellogg intersection at 119th Street, which has a crash rate of 0.12.
Construction is nearing completion on the extension of the north frontage road west of 111th Street. The project also included pavement improvements that will accommodate westbound to eastbound U-turns at 119th Street.
