The Wichita Park Board will vote to decide the future of MacDonald Golf Course at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 in the City Hall first-floor boardroom. The public and media are welcome to attend.
Local Developer Johnny Stevens submitted an unsolicited offer for the course during the summer. The Park Board later voted to seek bids for the sale of MacDonald. The deadline for submissions ended at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
A small panel of Golf Advisory Committee members, Park Board members, and City of Wichita staff will review the bids on Monday, Dec. 3. The panel will select an offer to present to the Park Board that owns MacDonald Golf Course. The Board could choose a bid to sell the course, or decide to keep it as part of the municipal golf system. The proposals will be made public at the December 10 meeting.
The Park Board remains committed to keeping MacDonald as a public golf course, and if the board decides to sell, it would require a clause in the sales agreement that maintains the land for public use.
"Whichever bid the Park Board selects, we all have the same goal," said Wichita Park and Recreation Director Troy Houtman. "We all want MacDonald to stay open to the public for Wichitans to enjoy for generations to come, regardless of who owns the land."
MacDonald is a 146-acre golf course located at 840 N. Yale in northeast Wichita.
