Contact: City Communications |

Wichita City Council members are scheduled to select a candidate to fill the District II City Council seat at the January 8 Council meeting, City officials announced today. The five District II candidates will have an opportunity to give a three-minute speech at the Council meeting.

The following five candidates moved forward in the selection process after the District II Advisory Board (DAB) interviewed and rated seven candidates on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018.

  • David Babich
  • Marcey Gregory
  • Daniel Rutherford
  • Charles Schmidt
  • Becky Tuttle
A majority Council vote will determine who will be the interim District II Council member until the seat is permanently filled in the November 5, 2019, election. The vacancy was created when District II Council Member Pete Meitzner was elected to the Sedgwick County Commission in the November election. By ordinance, current District II Council Member Meitzner will not participate in the selection process.

The Wichita City Council meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays in the City Council Chambers, first floor, City Hall, 455 N. Main, Wichita, KS 67202.
