Wichita residents are invited to a 50th Birthday celebration for Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.
The reception is an opportunity for the public to mark a historic milestone for the community and learn about the history of Wichita's performing art and convention center. The Century II Citizen's Committee is hosting this event as part of a public engagement initiative. The Committee has spent the past eleven months evaluating the Century II building and reviewing the challenges it faces as Wichita looks to the next 50 years. They will offer a review of the history of the building at the reception and share their findings and possible solutions. Attendees will get a first look at some of the options for the future of performing arts and conventions in Wichita and a chance to share their ideas.
"This is an exciting time for Wichita," said Century II Citizen Committee chairwoman Mary Beth Jarvis. "We are at a crossroads and it's a perfect time to evaluate how we wish to grow and plot our path for the next 50 years. A vital and vibrant community includes performing arts and convention spaces and it's up to us to determine what that will be. This reception is the first step to planning that path."
The public will have an opportunity to share their comments with the Committee at the reception, enjoy birthday cake and enter to win prizes for attending. This event is free to the public.
