The south and east legs of the 45th and Hillside intersection will be closed to traffic for the next two months beginning March 5. The north and west legs of the intersection, including the K-254 ramps, will remain open.
During the closure, through traffic will be detoured using 37th, Oliver and Hydraulic Streets
Road and traffic improvements to the 45th and Hillside intersection, which began last year, have provided left- and right-turn lanes in all directions and constructed a new traffic signal. The final phase of the project will widen both roads at the railroad tracks and construct new railroad crossing signals. This closure was delayed as a result of scheduling by the Union Pacific Railroad.
Additional message signs will be posted along I-135, I-235, and K-254 to provide advance warning of the closures.
The $2.5 million project includes joint funding from the City of Wichita, and Federal and State grants administered through the Kansas Department of Transportation. The estimated full project completion is May 2019.
