Wichita Public Library will checkout Chromebooks to customers

Contact: Sean Jones, Wichita Public Library |

The Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. 2nd St., will begin checking out 12 Chromebooks to customers through a Portable Device Dispenser, starting Monday, June 24. This service is made possible through a Grow with Google grant the Library received in 2018.

"The goal of the dispenser is to offer additional technology opportunities to customers without direct access to a home computer," said Jeff Tate, Digital Services Manager. "It's also a great way for customers to utilize the Advanced Learning Library's collaborative spaces."

Chromebooks are checked out and returned to the self-service dispenser. Checkout is on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be placed on hold. Additionally, there are a few other guidelines customers should know about:

  • Customers must have a library card in good standing. E-cards are not able to check out Chromebooks.

  • Chromebooks check out for three hours, once per day per customer.

  • Customers will be charged a $15 per hour overdue late fee.

  • Customers cannot take the Chromebooks outside of the Advanced Learning Library, except for the Reading Terrace on the second floor, and the Children's Learning Garden.

  • All information on the Chromebook is deleted when the device is powered off or the lid is closed. Customers should bring a flash drive to save information.
