City’s Purchasing Division Receives National Recognition

The City of Wichita’s Purchasing Division in the Department of Finance has been awarded the 24th Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) for 2019 from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. (NPI).

The prestigious AEP Award is earned by public and non-profit agencies that demonstrate a continuous improvement and commitment to procurement excellence. This annual award recognizes procurement organizations that embrace innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership and e-procurement.

“This award demonstrates the City’s professional purchasing staff’s approach of efficient purchasing methods and best practices in the field of public procurement,” said City Purchasing Manager Melinda Walker. “The competitive bidding process is an important part to ensure fairness, integrity and to maximize the greatest value for each dollar spent by the City of Wichita.”

For 2019, there were 202 successful applicants, including 42 counties, 67 cities, 25 higher education agencies, 23 school districts, 39 special districts, four state agencies and two others. The City is one of only three agencies in Kansas to receive this award.
