The 2019 Arts Council Juried Exhibit will kick off with an opening during First Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the Main Gallery at CityArts, 334 N. Mead.
The exhibit features 47 pieces from 37 Kansas artists were chosen by Juror Michael McCaffrey, an award winning and nationally exhibited painter. Mr. McCaffrey received his BFA from the University of Kansas and his MFA from Indiana University, majoring in painting. He also selected three pieces for awards with cash prizes:
1st Place ($1000) – Tasha Wentling, "Dystert Vaer"
2nd Place ($750) – Hannah Jennings, "Is This What They Call Freedom?"
3rd Place ($500) – Sean Ward, "Forest of Wonders"
An Artist's Reception and Awards Presentation will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. during the First Friday opening. Light refreshments will be served.
In addition to the Arts Council Juried Exhibit, CityArts will feature "Seriously Decorative Frivolity," a collection of paintings by Novelene Ross, in the Boardroom Gallery starting on First Friday and showing through Nov. 22.
The Arts Council is an organization that supports arts & culture in Wichita through advocacy, leadership, education and collaboration. The Juried Exhibition is housed at CityArts. CityArts offers exhibitions, artistic demonstrations and sales opportunities for local and regional artists and provides creative educational opportunities for arts and cultural activities and programming for citizens of all ages, ethnicities, and financial status.
