Resident
and staff safety guiding City’s plan to open services and facilities
The City of Wichita will begin reopening city facilities and
programs in phases. The plan was announced during the City’s weekly news
briefing. The plan is aimed at being responsive to the community’s needs for
programs and services but is flexible to prioritize the health and safety of
staff and residents.
The City is coordinating with the County and State to best
formulate reopening regulations. Employees are working hard to prepare
buildings and programs and institute robust health and safety processes.
The
City’s plan mirrors the County and State plans with a phased approach:
Phase 1 runs this week through
May 26. City employees are busy preparing buildings with safety protocols,
supplies and informational signage.
Phase 2 is planned for May 26
through June 30 in which we will begin opening up for business but with limited
access to city facilities and programs and modified service deliveries. During
Phase 2, we will be constantly and closely monitoring and assessing risks to
the health and safety of our employees and residents before progressing
further.
Phase 3 of our re-opening is
scheduled for July 1 when we will be able to make a more accurate assessment
for further loosening of restrictions and limitations of City facilities and
programs.
The full phase out of our
re-opening may take many months as we wait for a vaccine and/or further
guidance from the State, CDC and the County.
The specifics on limitations and other safety
precautions for each facility, building and program will be regularly updated
at wichita.gov/coronavirus.
