Do you want your artwork on view at the Wichita Art Museum? WAM invites all artists in the Wichita area to participate in Foot in the Door, an exhibition opening in October to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the city’s visual artists by inviting them to share a work of art to get their “foot in the door.” The main requirement is that the work of art submitted be 12 x 12 inches, literally a foot in the door.
This is a unique opportunity for local artists to have work on view at WAM during the museum’s 85th anniversary year. Any individual who identifies as an artist is welcome to submit a 12 x 12 inch artwork—painting, print, drawing, relief—for presentation in the exhibition Foot in the Door. Young and old, professional and emerging—all artists from the Wichita metro are invited to take part.
“The vibrancy of Wichita—a prosperous, dynamic city—is so central to the mission of the Wichita Art Museum. Artists who call Wichita home help fuel the city’s energy and spark and contribute so much to what makes this community an amazing place to live. So, in our 85th year, we’ve taken on a project to celebrate Wichita artists and make them feel welcomed and loved at their art museum,” said WAM Director Dr. Patricia McDonnell. “Emerging and established, artists of every style and media will be proudly on view at WAM to recognize the value of Wichita artists. They are critical to the lifeblood at WAM.”
Foot in the Door is open to artists of any age. Submissions from artists under the age of 16 will require a parent/guardian’s signature. Artists must currently live in the Wichita MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) as defined by Butler, Harvey, Sedgwick, and Sumner counties.
