Chihuly Glass Masterpiece to be Reinstalled at the Wichita Art Museum

Contact: Teresa Veazey, Public Relations Manager |

Museum visitors and members of the media are welcome to observe the reinstallation of more than 600 pieces of glass starting tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28 and continuing through Thursday. The glass artwork by international artist Dale Chihuly is part of the museum’s Persian Seaform Ceiling, also known as the Chihuly Bridge. Visitors will again be able to walk across the glass sculpture after it has been reinstalled.

Conducting the reinstallation is a team from Denny Park Fine Arts, a Seattle-based company that cleans, packs, ships, and installs major artworks. In addition to reinstalling the Chihuly Bridge, the team also will clean the Chihuly Chandelier, a large-scale glass installation in the S. Jim and Darla Farha Great Hall.

Gallery hours are 10 am to 5 pm. There is no charge to watch the reinstallation of the Chihuly Bridge or the Chihuly Chandelier cleaning.

Dale Chihuly is an internationally recognized glass artist. In 1971, Chihuly co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Washington. With this international glass center, Chihuly has been a leader in the development of glass as a fine art. He has received innumerable awards and his work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide. The Wichita Art Museum is proud to have two of his works in its collection.

WAM’s galleries, the Museum Store and the Muse Café are open to the public as the facility allows for ample social distancing. Facial coverings are required for both visitors and staff. For a list of new safety protocols and WAM’s Visitor Code of Conduct, go to
