On Saturday, Nov. 21, six Wichita Public Library branches will be closed due to scheduled maintenance of the City of Wichita’s data center. The scheduled maintenance will force internet and phone service to go offline.
The Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. 2nd St., will remain open.
The scheduled maintenance of the city’s data center will shut down all internet and phone capabilities in the branches, removing the capability for the branches to facilitate materials checkout and return, nor allow residents to use phone, copying, faxing or computer services. Internet at the Advanced Learning Library runs on a separate system than the City’s data center, and is funded through a grant from Cox Communications. Public computing will be available, but all other services, including materials checkout and returns, will operate in an offline mode.
Access to the Library’s website, online catalog, online databases, OverDrive and 24-hour phone renewal system will also be unavailable. All services will be restored on Sunday, Nov. 22.
Materials due to the library on Saturday, Nov. 21 will be due by Monday, Nov. 23 and may be returned through the book drop at any location. Materials held for customers to pick up will be extended to Monday, Nov. 23.
