Starting today, Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple, members of the Wichita City Council and some City staff including City Manager Robert Layton are in quarantine for two weeks after Council Member Brandon Johnson tested positive for COVID-19. If anyone among this group experiences symptoms during quarantine they have been instructed to follow COVID-19 safety protocols and get tested.
Using contact tracing to determine possible exposures, Wichita Fire Department personnel has notified the city hall staff that may have been affected and provided instructions for their quarantine and testing.
The Mayor, Council and affected staff will not be able to return to City Hall until approximately November 18 (plus or minus a day or two depending upon the possible contact date for each of those affected).
City Council meetings will continue as scheduled but will utilize online meeting software until Council can meet in person again. The public and media will continue to be able to view council meetings via the City's Youtube channel, City 7 television on Cox Cable or by attending public viewing rooms at Century II.
City Hall is open on a limited basis. Residents with City business are strongly encouraged to check wichita.gov/coronavirus for the most updated City Hall information.
The City continues to strongly urge all Wichita residents and City employees to practice safe social distancing whenever possible, to wear face masks when distancing isn't possible, limit public exposure and to wash hands frequently.
