The 2021 Excellence in Public Service Award winners have been honored in separate surprise announcements at their respective jobs. The six winners are:

• Deputy Narcisco Narvais, Defense Tactics Training Coordinator, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office;
• Judy Dotson, Facilities and Vet Med Administrative Support at the Sedgwick County Zoo;
• Cheryl Witt, Law and History Department Chairperson and Teacher at Northeast Magnet High School;
• Fredrick "Jay" Crayton, II, Athletic Coordinator at East High School;
• Chief Stacey Wespi, Medical Chief for the Wichita Fire Department; and
• Kristina Rose, Assistant Controller, City of Wichita.

The honorees were selected from thousands of eligible workers from Sedgwick County, Wichita Public Schools and the City of Wichita. They share a strong work ethic, exceptional performance and a commitment to community.

Courtesy of the sponsoring DeVore Foundation, each honoree will receive a $2,500 check at a reception at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 11 in Lotus Hall at Botanica, 701 Amidon.

About the winners:

Deputy Narcisco Narvais (Sedgwick County) serves with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office at the Law Enforcement Training Center, located on Wichita State University's Innovation Campus. He has served as part of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) instructional cadre since 2009, an Accident Investigations Instructor from 2010-2018 and the Defensive Tactics Training Coordinator since 2010, where he has trained 125 commissioned deputies and 504 detention deputies.

Judy Dotson (Sedgwick County) provides administrative support for the Facilities and Vet Med for the Sedgwick County Zoo. Judy worked for COMCARE before transferring to the Sedgwick County Zoo in October 2010. Judy is responsible for verifying and coding Facilities and Vet Med invoices, ensuring proper vendor numbers and funding information. She also oversees the general supply orders for departments.

Cheryl Witt (Wichita Public Schools) serves as the Law and History Department Chairperson and Teacher at Northeast Magnet High School with 26 years of service with the Wichita Public Schools. During her career, Witt has won several district and state awards including the Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award, the Good Apple Award, faculty of the month, State of Kansas Teacher of Influence Award, National Society of High School Scholars Educators of Distinction award, and has been nominated for the Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize.

Fredrick "Jay" Crayton, II (Wichita Public Schools) serves as the Athletic Coordinator at East High School, teaching in the Wichita Public Schools for 14 years. He serves as a mentor to other physical education teachers throughout the district and has helped organize several community events with the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team and T-Mobile.

Chief Stacey Wespi, (City) serves as the Medical Chief for the Wichita Fire Department. He began his service in 1992 as a firefighter and progressed through the ranks to his current position. In March of 2020, Chief Wespi was tasked with the responsibility of being the source for City of Wichita supervisors and employees for all COVID related inquiries.

Kristina Rose (City) serves as the Assistant Controller for the City of Wichita. She is part of the team that produces the City's financial reports, including the Annual Report and the Quarterly Reports. Kristina has been heavily involved with the pandemic-related grant funding received by the City of Wichita.
