Kansas Honor Flight #89A is scheduled to return at 1:25 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8 at Eisenhower National Airport, 2277 Eisenhower Airport Pkwy. The honor flight departed Wednesday, October 7, carrying 38 Vietnam War veterans and their guardians to Washington, D.C. The veterans are enjoying a two-night stay in the nation's capital, where the group will visit the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Marine Corps War Memorial, the United States Navy Memorial, the United States Air Force Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Additionally, the group will tour the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.
The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials at no cost to them, with current priority given to World War II veterans. After the World War II veterans, efforts focus on Korean War veterans followed by Vietnam War veterans. Guardians, who pay their own travel expenses, accompany veterans to ensure safe travel. Contributions from the public provide funding for the trips.
Honor flights are organized by Kansas Honor Flight, Inc. The trips are made possible through a partnership with Southwest Airlines, the Transportation and Security Administration, ABM Parking, Airport Concessionaires, MSE Branded Foods, and Wichita Airport Authority staff.
