The Wichita Police Department (WPD) responded to your location because of a reported domestic disturbance and we are taking a new approach. Everyone has disagreements, but not ones so intense that the police are called for help. What happened is not okay.

Domestic Violence is wrong and will not be tolerated. If you ever need immediate help, CALL 911. The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our priority.

Advice from Wichita PD

Take a break: If you are upset, leave the situation and take the time you need. Leave the same room or home and allow your partner to do the same. Do not continue an intense conversation.

Avoid alcohol and drugs: If you have been drinking or are under the influence of drugs, avoid arguments and confrontations! Things can get out of hand quickly.

Just hearing adults yelling is very scary for children of all ages. Babies and young children are affected the most. The fear caused by these arguments is bad for the development of brains.

The Wichita Police Department is taking new actions against domestic violence suspects.

• The Domestic Intervention and Violence Reduction Team (DIVRT) will make suspects fleeing the scene of an incident a priority.  Every effort will be made to track down the suspect.     
• Domestic violence suspects will be closely monitored. Expect unannounced police visits or other contacts.
