The Wichita Police Department will comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA, 38 U.S.C. § 4301-4335). This is a federal law intended to ensure that persons who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or other "uniformed services" (1) are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service; (2) are promptly reemployed in their civilian jobs upon return from duty; and (3) are not discriminated against in employment based on past, present, or future military service.
Veteran's Preference Points
If you are interested in receiving Veteran's Preference, you must submit your DD-214 and/or equivalent form during your first contact interview at the Training Center. Qualified veterans are guaranteed an interview for a position for which they apply and meet the qualifications for the position, but are not guaranteed to be hired for the job. Spouses of veterans may also receive preference and must submit a copy of their marriage license with the DD-214 and/or equivalent form paperwork.
All military personnel will receive an additional 4 points during their Pre-employment oral interview board.
Also during the promotional process, military personnel can receive additional points.
